Growing up I have had the opportunity to do a fair bit of traveling, both with my family and through hockey. I have travelled to and visited many places with the bigger trips always being to Mexico or Hawaii.
I have been to Mexico on several occasions and seen different parts of it. One trip in particular that stands out most to me would be a trip to Puerto Vallarta. I was around the age of 10, my family and the family we were travelling with went and spent a day at an Elementary School near Puerto Vallarta. Here we got to see what a day in school for students in Mexico looked like. I remember recognizing they were focusing on learning the vowels, A, E, I, O, and U. Keep in mind I was very young at this time but this just stood out because I as well was probably learning the vowels around this point in my life. I remember thinking wow, people in Mexico, so far away from me in Canada are also learning the vowels. I thought it was the neatest thing.
This was such a unique experience for me. Being so young at the time it can be difficult to remember the full experience. However, seeing the schooling for students in another country was quite an eye-opening experience.
