Hello and welcome, my name is Ashley McCabe and I am 23-years-old. I was born and raised in a very small town called Lillooet, British Columbia. Here, I completed up until grade 11, wherein from there, I moved to Vancouver Island to complete grade 12 at a private school, Shawnigan Lake School. One of the main factors as to why I made the transition from my small and lovely town of Lillooet, to Vancouver Island was to both further pursue my love for hockey, while obtaining a year of an outstanding and extremely beneficial year of education. From Shawnigan, I was recruited and offered the opportunity to play for the women’s hockey team at the University of Lethbridge. I lived in Lethbridge for 2 years and these 2 years will have an ever-lasting positive impact on who I am and what I have experienced. Playing a high-level of competitive hockey while beginning my path towards becoming a teacher taught me many valuable life skills and habits that I have carried on since. After completing those 2 years I made the move to Kamloops where I have completed my Bachelor of Education Degree. Since a young age I have always dreamt of becoming a teacher and as I have reached the completion of my degree, I could not be more grateful for the path my education has taken me on over the years.

For some things I like, I love the outdoors, being active, sports, my puppy Ellie, camping and boating, time with my loved ones, and fun with friends.

Since I was young, my summers have been spent camping on a lake with all my loved ones. Water sports are some of my favorite things… from wakeboarding, to wake-surfing, tubing, knee-boarding, and swimming, I have put in more hours than one could imagine doing all of it. As for other sports, hockey has been a big part of my life since as young as I can remember… as one would presume from the paragraph above! I grew up playing the game and competitively at that. I represented British Columbia for the Female Under-16 BC team, as well as the Female Under-18 BC team and further went on to play a few years at the University of Lethbridge. I am now, what one would describe as, “retired”, but still partake in fun leagues and any tournaments where you can enter a team.
I have my own puppy, a loving, happy and very fluffy golden retriever named Ellie. She is my partner for all my hikes which always end up with a trip to the lake for her to swim because this pup loves the mud. Any mud puddle she can find, she is laying in it, fully submerged, before I can catch her. A dog is something that I will always have in my life. They’re the best companions and bring more happiness than one would presume.
My loved ones are a huge part of my life. I have a very close family, from parents to grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, and even second and third cousins, we are all very close. I am lucky to have so many amazing people around me who genuinely love, support and always cheer me on. To have a family that loves and cares for you, as well as, enjoys life with you and shares all of the best times with you is something special.
As for my friends, I spend an endless amount of time with them. From camping trips, to hikes, road-trips, sporting activities and tournaments, adventuring, “family dinners”, to all sorts of gatherings, friends bring so much joy to my life. It is simply easy to say that friends play a very important role in my day-to-day life.
